Intel’s nemesis AMD joins MeeGo project

Intel’s major rival, AMD, has joined the The Linux Foundation’s MeeGo open source Linux project. MeeGo started life as a collaboration between Nokia and Intel, merging the Moblin and Maemo OSes.

AMD’s involvement was announced at the MeeGo Conference 2010, with AMD’s spokesman saying that “this operating system will help drive our embedded plans and create expanded market opportunities for our forthcoming Accelerated Processing Units”.

The fact that AMD wants in even with Intel’s heavy involvment is quite an accolade for MeeGo, raising our hopes evermore.

Perhaps with AMD on board they’ll even rename the OS aMeeGo… sorry.
