HTC finally took the wraps off the HTC One M9+ at a Beijing event yesterday, revealing the expected 5.2-inch 2K screen and fingerprint scanner as well as an octa-core processor.
The HTC One M9+ has been one of the worst-kept secrets in the mobile world since the first leaks surfaced a few months back, but now the rumours have turned to facts as HTC finally launched the handset in Asia. The specs and features are pretty much as expected, but sadly there’s no UK price and release date so far.
What specs does the One M9+ pack?
The One M9+ will boast a slightly bigger 5.2-inch screen compared with the 5-inch One M9, but more importantly, the resolution gets a boost to qHD for 2K visuals. Great news, as the Full HD visuals was one of the disappointments of the new One M9 flagship.
Some might question the point in such a small jump in size, but HTC already released the more phablet-esque One E9+ just a week ago, packing a sizeable 5.5-inch display.
The One M9+ also sports the fingerprint sensor that so many predicted, secreted beneath the home button. That scanner has already been confirmed to support Alipay, the most popular online payment platform in Asia.
Android 5.0.2 Lollipop is coated by HTC’s new Sense 7 overlay and as predicted the device will be powered by a meaty octa-core MediaTek MT6795T chipset, clocked at 2.2GHz. HTC has packed in 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, but you’ll be able to supplement that with a further 128GB via the included micro SD slot.
HTC has used the same sadly underwhelming 20-megapixel ‘Duo’ primary camera as the One M9, while opting to use its divisive UltraPixel tech for the 5-megapixel front-facer. As you would expect, the One M9+ also sports HTC’s dual BoomSound speakers, with support for Dolby audio.
Is the HTC One M9+ coming to the UK?
HTC have stated that the device will be available in three colours, Silver and Gold, Gunmetal, and Gold, though whether or not it will ever fetch up on our green and pleasant shores is anyone’s guess. There was talk of a Snapdragon-powered variant hitting Europe and the US later in the year, but for now the One M9+ is Asia-only.
