Want to know how how a Rolls-Royce car is born? We did too, so we embarked on a tour of the firm’s fascinating factory in West Sussex, England, to discover how the world’s most luxurious cars are created from start to finish. And naturally, we filmed the whole thing – just hit play in the video to see the place in action for yourself.
All visitors are asked to wear suitable attire; no, not a fancy suit and tie, but rather a bespoke Rolls-Royce jacket that will help RR employees identify you, and to prevent you accidentally scratching a half a million pound motor as you make your way through the factory.
Every Rolls-Royce car starts its life in a separate factory in Bavaria, where the skeleton, or ‘body in white’ is created and then flown to the UK. Once at the East Sussex factory, it’s then painted – both by humans and machines to ensure the perfect multi-layer finish, before it’s polished to within an inch of its life to create a mirror-like finish.
Next, it’s time to hit the production line, where cabling, dashboard, sound deadening, transmission, leather, wood and the fancy starlight roof are all installed.
