Aston Martin has revealed the Vantage GT12 Roadster, a special commission made for a customer by its Q by Aston Martin department.
The Aston Martin Vantage GT12 Roadster is a convertible version of the Vantage GT12 coupe and features the same 595bhp 6.0-litre V12 mated to the same seven-speed Sportshift III as its hard-top brother.
Work has been done to the body beyond losing the roof. For instance, it features new carbon fibre body panels and a unique suspension setup designed to ensure it has the same ‘exceptional handling characteristics’ as the coupe.
A titanium exhaust, stiffer body and a folding fabric roof have also been added, giving the lucky owner maximum access to its glorious V12 soundtrack ─ provided, of course, it doesn’t rain.
The creation of the Aston Martin Vantage GT12 Roadster is a significant landmark for the marque because it is the first time a customer has been able to utilise its full design and engineering capabilities, paving the way for future projects of a similar ilk.
Aston Martin CEO and president Dr Andy Palmer said: “The Vantage GT12 Roadster is a hugely exciting project. Not just because it’s sensational to look at, but because it vividly demonstrates the expanded capabilities of Q by Aston Martin.
“By incorporating the exceptional engineering capabilities of Aston Martin Advanced Operations within the Q by Aston Martin bespoke commissioning service we have a truly formidable creative team.”
Vice president and chief special operations officer David King added: “The GT12 Roadster is the first project to combine all of those skill sets in one magnificent car. In just nine-months we took a customer’s dream and realised it, with a fully-formed, exactingly engineered and fully road-legal one-off. That is the essence of the Q by Aston Martin service”.
Sadly Aston Martin neglected to mention a price, but this is one hell of a custom job so expect a significant premium on the £250,000 GT12 coupe.
