Lexus LF-NX is one bad MF

Look up the word ‘badass’ in the dictionary and you’ll see a picture of this Lexus LF-NX Crossover Concept – just before one comes hurtling round a corner to run you over. This rippled, sinewed monstrosity is quite possibly the most awesome-looking four-by-four we’ve come across in recent times.

The Lexus LF-NX is a mid-sized SUV in the same mould as the Audi Q5 or BMW X5, yet it makes those vehicles look dainty in comparison. It uses Lexus’ L-finesse design language, except here it’s been taken to new extremes.

​The rest of the LF-NX’s surfaces look as if they’ve been injected with whatever Lance Armstrong was on.The familiar ‘spindle grille’, for example, is so large it looks as if it could swallow a Ford Fiesta. Then look at those menacing, narrow headlights with tick-shaped day-running LEDs – the word ‘aggressive’ seems completely inadequate in this context.

The rest of the LF-NX’s surfaces look as if they’ve been injected with whatever Lance Armstrong was on. The side of the vehicle in particular is a sea of angles, while the rear features deep cuts that frame the car’s brake lights, which project light down the full depth of the bumper.

There are some sensible elements to the Lexus LF-NX’s design. The wheel arches are edged with a black protective finish that looks as if it could take a few knocks and scratches in a cramped supermarket car park.

Power is said to come from a new version of the Lexus Hybrid Drive system, which has been tuned for ‘SUV performance’, which we interpret to mean peak power and torque outputs have been increased at the expense of fuel economy and emissions.
