20Mbps broadband opened to 125,000 UK homes

Faster Broadband with ADSL2+Broadband providers will be able to offer faster broadband to around 125,000 British homes in BT’s latest round of exchange upgrades.

BT Wholesale has installed ADSL2+ broadband kit at exchanges across south-east England, raising speeds from up to 10Mbps to a maximum of 20Mbps.

Broadband providers will beable to access the high speed-enabled networks and offer faster broadband packages to their customers.

John Weaver, BT’s South East regional director, said: “In these challenging economic times, faster broadband can help businesses become more competitive, find new customers and work more flexibly as well as greatly improving the online services available to families, homeworkers and other internet users.

“By the Summer, around 86 per cent of the region’s homes and businesses will be served by an exchange that has been upgraded to deliver these higher speeds.”

The upgraded exchanges are in:

  • West Sussex: Birdham, Midhurst and Bosham
  • East Sussex: Hampden Park and Castleham
  • Surrey: Upper Warlingham
  • The Isle of Wight: Bembridge and Wootton Bridge
  • Kent: Allhallows, Dymchurch, Edenbridge, Fairseat, Farningham, Hawkhurst, New Romney and Southfleet
  • Buckinghamshire: Eaton Bray, Olney, Stone and Amersham
  • Hampshire: Hartley Wintney, Alresford, Bransgore, Milford on Sea, Medstead, Twyford, Hook and Lee-on-Solent
  • Berkshire: Mortimer, Woolhampton, Spencers Wood and Hungerford

Some service providers automatically upgrade their customers to the enhanced broadband service. BT said people should contact their chosen service provider for more information about the products and services they offer.
