Alex Scott signed up to help kick Soccer AM into YouTube

Arsenal and England Women’s footballer Alex Scott has been signed up to present new-look social media-oriented Soccer AM.

As well as sporting a posh new logo, Soccer AM content will start hitting YouTube, Vine, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, with fresh content being uploaded throughout the week.

It’s not clear exactly what Sky’s got up its sleeve, but judging from this reaction clip, retweeted from Scott’s official account, it’s going to be pretty eyebrow-raising.

This latest move builds on the back of Sky Sports launching channels on Snapchat and investing in YouTube channel network Whistle Sports, in a bid to serve up counter for younger audiences.

It just so happens that Whistle Sports expertise in creating web-based content was leveraged to make this millennial-centric rebrand happen.

Dave Gibbs, director of digital media at Sky Sports, said: “Whistle Sports has led the way in producing entertaining digital sports content in the US for some time now with hugely engaged audiences.

“The new Soccer AM channel on social media is going to do something very different to what football supporters are used to from Sky Sports. We will produce new types of content, with new presenters for new audiences. By combining our expertise and talent, we hope to produce something that will really excite young football fans.”

Generally the new format will see presenters take a look at humourous stories from the weekend’s football on Monday mornings and use data and stats to make predictions about the next weekend’s big games on Friday nights.

Every week the new Soccer AM will focus on a new theme and in the launch week the team will focus on the release of FIFA 16. ‘Soccer AM 2.0’ as it’s almost certainly been referred to internally, also wants to bring in ‘the biggest names in vlogging to look at the characters that surround the game’.

For the inaugural FIFA 16 week, we’d very much expect that YouTube star KSI will make an appearance, but no guests have been confirmed as of yet.

Soccer AM is broadcast on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 1 HD on Saturdays at 10am.
