Best Philips 4K HDR TVs for 2017: 9002 OLED, 7502, 6482 and 6412

Philips has waited until after the madness of trade shows like CES to fully unveil the details for its top-end 2017 televisions. While the likes of Samsung, LG, Sony and Panasonic have revealed their flagship TVs, Philips has kept us in suspense – until now.

One of the big improvements this year is thanks to the introduction of the new P5 processing engine. Philips says this improves source quality, sharpness, colour, contrast and motion by up to 50 per cent – so, everything that’s important then.

Philips has opted in on the OLED offering for its top-end TV while also dishing out some LED delights too. It’ll also be offering Freeview Play in all its top-end televisions when they arrive from April with a few delayed until June. That means you’ll be able to catch up with shows across channels using the remote to scroll as if they’d been recorded right there on the set.

So these are the best Philips TVs to look out for in 2017.

Best Philips TVs 2017: Philips 9002 OLED

Leading the charge, as has largely been the case across the brands this year, is a 55-inch OLED TV. The Philips 9002 OLED offers a full 3840 x 2160 4K resolution as well as HDR10 and the latest HLG support for high dynamic range and 99 percent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. Plus you get Philips famous Ambilight to extend the picture lighting out onto the wall behind.

Thanks to that P5 processor the quality should be a big improvement on last year’s 901F panel – which is essentially the same as this. A top end brightness of 750 nits isn’t bad at all for an OLED and combined with Philips’ triple ring rear-firing integrated speakers with DTS HD Premium Sound it should offer a really immersive experience.

Best Philips TVs 2017: Philips 7502

The ultra slim LED 7502 offers a three-sided Ambilight for ‘surround light’ immersion – but the colour on-screen should be excellent too thanks to HDR10 and HLG compatibility. The panel itself is also 4K and tops out at 400 nits of brightness. This uses that new P5 processor for a 50 percent improvement in picture quality over last year’s models.

The Philips 7502 also features a front-firing “visible sound” soundbar with 45W amp for powerful stereo sound. The TV is also powered by Android Smart TV OS so there will be plenty of apps including those capable of 4K and HDR streaming. You can also use the onboard 16GB storage or add an external hard drive.

The Philips 7502 comes in 49, 55 and 65-inch sizes.

Best Philips TVs 2017: Philips 6482

Like the model above it, the 6482 also features a peak brightness of 400 nits, three-sided Ambilight and a 4K HDR-compliant panel. This is backed by micro dimming and Philips’ Pixel Plus Ultra HD engine for smooth picture quality.

The 6482 also features the forward firing “visible sound” soundbar built into the television but with a 25W amplifier.

This model comes in 49 and 55-inch sizes.

Best Philips TVs 2017: Philips 6412

The Philips 6412 is also 4K and HDR capable with HDR10 smarts onboard. It features both Philips’ Micro Dimming Pro and Pixel Plus Ultra HD tech to dole out ideal contrast, smooth motion and natural colours.

This model features a two-sided Ambilight plus a 20W amplifier for the triple ring speaker tech. There is also that Android Smart TV operating system and 16GB of onboard storage.

The Philips 6412 comes in 43, 49, 55 and 65-inch models.

Release dates start in April and May time with a few TVs scheduled for a June on sale date. Pricing was not announced at the time of writing this article.
