Batfans will be able to an extra dose of the caped crusader as the Dark Knight makes an exclusive appearance on Amazon Prime Instant Video.
Amazon has made a deal with Warner Bros to acquire the exclusive UK broadcast rights to animated series Beware The Batman. The complete first season (26 episodes) of the series is now available to stream for Amazon UK Prime members. The series originally aired in the US on the Cartoon Network.
The cartoon uses CGI animation as opposed to the cel-shaded noir stylings of Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond.
This marks the first time Amazon Prime Instant Video has aired a show aimed at young adults before it airs on TV. The show focuses on the early days of Batman and sees him team up with Katana, former secret agent butler Alfred Pennyworth and Lieutenant James Gordon to fight the villains of Gotham City.
“This milestone deal signals an exciting time in the growth of our exclusive content offering,” said Tim Leslie, vice president of Amazon Instant Video EU. “We’re passionate about investing in the very best shows for our customers of all ages, and this is a great new series for a range of generations to immerse themselves in.”
Jeffrey R Schlesinger, President of Warner Bros Worldwide Television Distribution, added: “Bruce Wayne is a character with so many stories to tell, and we’re excited to have brought this cutting-edge animated series to a service like Amazon Prime Instant Video.
“Allowing the Caped Crusader’s fans to enjoy all episodes on-demand means new audiences can experience the action-packed world of Beware the Batman whenever they want, however they want.”
Other exclusives signed by Prime Instant Video recently include the pirate drama series Black Sails and the second season of medieval blood and guts fest Vikings. Amazon has also recently comissioned the production of more exclusive original content. After a string of successful pilots, shows including The After, from X-Files creator Chris Carter and Mozart in the Jungle, a revelatory look at the steamy behind the scenes antics of a classical orchestra, will be hitting the streaming service later this year.
