Blinkbox inks Disney deal: Toy Story and War Horse on-demand in the UK

Online movie service blinkbox has signed a deal with Disney in the UK and Ireland that’ll see subscribers able to get favourites like Toy Story, Aladdin and Mary Poppins on demand alongside ABC-made shows like Lost and Grey’s Anatomy.

What’s more, future and upcoming titles like War Horse and The Muppets will be available to watch on-demand the same day that they’re launched on DVD.

This is in keeping with blinkbox’s same-day strategy. Michael Comish, CEO and co-founder of blinkbox explains: “This is the latest in a long line of deals with top studios ensuring that blinkbox offer the latest releases the same day as DVD.

To put it in to context, last week blinkbox had 35 of the top 40 latest movie releases available to watch instantly. At blinkbox we focus on the highest quality movie experience with all the latest titles available for our customers to enjoy anytime, anywhere without being tied into a subscription.”

This news means that blinkbox now has deals in place with all of the major media companies; 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros, Paramount, Sony Pictures and Universal have all inked contracts with blinkbox. You can also watch BBC shows such as Sherlock and The League of Gentlemen on demand for free from blinkbox. There’s plenty of great BBC stuff available, making blinkbox a good go-to place while you’re waiting for the Beeb to launch its own archive service.

Typical movie prices on blinkbox work out at £3.49 to rent and £9.99 to buy. TV episodes can be rented for around £1.99 per episode or £9.99 – £12.99 for a whole series.

You can watch TV and movies via the blinkbox site, on your Sony PlayStation 3 or through Samsung’s Smart TV’s.
