BT and TalkTalk will launch their own YouView boxes

BT and TalkTalk will launch their own YouView boxes alongside the Humax hardware unveiled for retail.

BT has confirmed that both itself and fellow YouView broadband partner TalkTalk will launch their own hardware, exclusive to their broadband subscribers.

YouView viewers who also subscribe to BT for their broadband connection will also be offered access to exclusive content from BT Vision, whether they have the retail product or BT’s YouView box.

A BT spokesman told Recombu Digital: “If you get your broadband from BT, then the box will detect that and you will be offered some special content.

“Later on, there will be two more boxes, one from TalkTalk and one from BT, and they will launch when we are both ready. It’s likely that these boxes will be available as subsidised products with BT broadband.”

BT, meanwhile, will continue to offer its own-brand BT Vision box with a mix of streaming linear TV channels and on-demand films and TV.

YouView will combine Freeview HD with a much richer selection of live streaming channels and on-demand TV.

In addition to seven-day catch-up TV from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, it is expected to have offerings from providers such as Netflix, Lovefilm, Blinkbox and even Sky’s Now TV.

The Humax YouView box was recently spotted in the John Lewis summer catalogue, although it’s yet to be officially announced.

YouView recently began recruiting users for a trial of 350 homes, which could be the last stage before the troubled two-year-old project launches to the public.

Other YouView partners include the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Arqiva, and TalkTalk, which recently slated YouView to launch by the end of September.
