BT is increasing phone and broadband prices this December, following price rises from TalkTalk, Virgin Media and Sky.
Prices will be increasing by a maximum of 6.49 per cent. Line rental will go up to £16.99/month from £15.99/month if you pay by direct debit. If you don’t, BT’s Line Rental Plus will see you paying £18.99/month.
The Unlimited Anytime Calls plan will increase to £7.45/month and individual calls will increase too. Those to UK landlines and 0870 numbers will go up from 9p a minute to 9.58p a minute or 6.44 per cent and the call will cost almost 1p more to connect.
BT’s Basic phone-only deal will remain at the price of £5.10/month and BT will also be introducing a broadband add-on, allowing customers to get a phone line and broadband service for £9.95/month in total.
With the current cots of line rental (£15.99/month) this would total £24.94/month. After December 2014 this would rise to £25.94/month.
A BT spokesperson said: “BT is sensitive to the tough economic times and we’ve taken care to make sure that low-income customers avoid price increases. We’ve added extra money-saving options for low-income customers and for customers who only want a phone line for calls.”
The company will also be introducing Home Phone Saver – a standalone phone package that includes anytime calls, free caller display, anonymous call reject and choose to refuse services for £19.99/month on a 12-month contract.
The spokesperson added: “We are introducing extra ways for customers to maximise their savings, such as the UK’s cheapest line and broadband bundle for low-income customers and Home Phone Saver for customers who just want a great value standalone telephone package.”
BT hasn’t yet announced its broadband price hikes, but the company has said they will be along the same lines as other price increases.
