BT defies God to repair networks in Scotland and East Midlands

Telecoms network provider BT Openreach has beaten the apocalyptic weather of mid-July to get signals back up in two more regions.

Openreach had invoked an ‘Acts of God’ clause to prioritise repair work around the UK after flooding and lightning damage.

It’s now lifted Matters Beyond Our Reasonable Control status in the South West Scotland and Derby/Nottingham regions.

Openreach is the division of BT responsible for building and maintaining the UK telecoms network between the exchange and the customer.

From more than 20 regions seriously initially affected by flooding damage in July, just four now remain: North East Scotland, Cumbria, Birmingham & Black Country and Swindon.

It’s a far cry from 2012, when severe summer storms combined with reduced staffing to leave Openreach battling repairs for several months.
