BT updating YouView and Vision+ boxes with fresh new-look interface

BT is preparing to update its YouView and Vision+ BT TV boxes with a fresh new look which promises smoother navigation and easier access to content.

The new menu lets you thumb through folders of content including Sky Movies, BT Sport and Kids content and jump to recently watched programmes.

As well as coming with a fetching new purple-hued overlay, the new update will include a number of small under the hood tweaks which all add up to a faster overall performance.

Alex Green, director of BT TV, said: “Our update is more than just a makeover. It will improve the performance of BT TV for customers, making navigation easier and faster. This follows our move from the BT Vision brand to simply using the BT master brand to cover our TV services.”

BT TV is the umbrella brand for BT YouView and BT Vision, despite both the services boasting different channels and features.

Both platforms give you Freeview HD digital terrestrial TV channels as well as access to extra subscription content delivered over a broadband connection.

Internet-delivered content available to BT TV customers includes BT Sport, Sky Sports and Sky Movies.

BT Vision+ is the only BT TV box that lets you get Sky Sports 1 and 2. New customers can’t get BT Sport on the Vision+ box.

BT’s YouView box lets you get the BT Sport channels – BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN – but you can’t get these channels in HD unless you sign up for a fibre-based BT Infinity package. Currently, there’s no way for new customers to get Sky Sports and BT Sport channels on one box from BT TV.

Last year, BT updated its YouView service, letting subscribers record internet channels – a feature which has still yet to arrive on rival TalkTalk’s YouView-based TV service TalkTalk TV.

The update will be rolled out to YouView box customers in July and to customers with a BT Vision+ box in the autumn.
