Destiny 2: What is Xur selling this week (13th of October)?

What does Xur have to sell between the 13 and 17th of October? Allow us to answer that question and whether the exotic goods line-up, which includes the Fighting Lion grenade launcher, is worth a look.

The Destiny 2 Xur exotic summary extravanganza is back, this time commencing on the 13th to 17th of October, 2017. The good news is that you can now get your weekly fix of exotic weapons and armour in return for your hard-earned Legendary Shards.

The bad news is that the items available this week are somewhat lacklustre, as you will see when you head to the Watcher’s Grave area – right by a fast travel point – on the planet of Nessus, where Xur and his hoody is waiting for you.

So what is Xur selling, exactly, and is it worth spending your Legendary Shards on? Here are the all-important details to help you decide, including the weapon and armour perks. Feel free to check out our previous Xur guide to see what you have missed.

If you prefer not to punish yourself with the past, you can look onwards and upwards at our guide to Destiny 2’s best guns for PvE and how weapon and armour infusion works. More productive, to be honest.

Fighting Lion: Destiny 2’s worst gun?

You could argue the exotic D.A.R.C.I. sniper rifle is worse, given that its only perk is to highlight the enemy’s health, but the Fighting Lion grenade launcher puts up a good fight.

Shame, really, because it looks more interesting than a lot of weapons and is actually classed as an energy weapon, freeing up a power weapon slot for a heavy-hitter such as a rocket launcher or fusion rifle.

The ‘Delayed Gratification’ perk delays the detonation time of grenades and lets them bounce of walls, meaning you could damage an enemy that has hidden behind cover were it not for the small splash damage area and low damage.

Then there is the ‘Thin the Herd’ trait, which should work like the brilliant plasma pistol in Halo because it means grenades do more damage to shielded opponents and rapid kills refill the magazine.

In theory, then, you should be able to knock a shield out, switch to another gun to finish the alien scum off, then swap back and you are ready to fire another grenade from Fighting Lion’s sizable barrel.

In reality, it takes two shots to knock a shield out so it is a waste of time unless you group more than one of them together and even then it is debatable

Most grenade launchers are rubbish (some of the sticky ones and automatic detonation offerings can be handy) and Fighting Lion is probably the worst. Save your Legendary Shards for something else.

Knucklehead Radar (Hunter): The radar retainer

The Knucklehead Radar helmet for Hunters in Destiny 2 shines brightest in the Crucible PvP mode because wearing it means your radar works when aiming down the sights of a gun, making it less likely someone will flank you.

The radar area of coverage is somewhat limited meaning enemy combatants can still surprise you at range, but the ‘Upgraded Sensor Pack’ perk can give you an advantage. Especially for helping ensure you land the first hit.

Peacekeepers (Titan): The submachine gunner’s dream

If you use submachine guns, the Peacekeepers leg armour exotic is hard to beat. The ‘Mecha Holster’ special ability reloads the submachine you swap from and swaps to another submachine gun instantly.

A constant stream of bullets and no reloading – not bad, eh?

Wings of Sacred Dawn (Warlock): Dawnblade special

Bit of a niche item, the Wings of Sacred Dawn exotic armour. The ‘Template: Tome of Dawn’ intrinsic perk holds you in the air for a short time when you aim down the sights, allowing you to launch bullets from above as if you were on terra firma.

Precision hits actually extend the time you are suspended, which could help you get a kill, but being still in the air will only work for so long before you become a nice, easy target. Probably best to save your exotic armour option for something else.
