British 4G pioneer EE continues its rollout as service go live in 12 more towns including High Wycombe, Oldham, and Oxford.
The extra coverage – also in Ashton-under-Lyne, Chatham, Gillingham, Merthyr Tydfil, Rochester, Runcorn, Sale, Stafford and Wigan – brings EE 4G to 74 towns and cities.
That’s an impressive head start for the network’s superfast service in seven months, when other networks are still working out how to launch 4G without harming Freeview signals.

EE’s 4G network currently operates at 1800MHz, so it has no risk of interfering with Freeview signals, unlike the 800MHz 4G services launching later this year from all four UK network operators.
The EE 4G service is on track to cover more than 70 per cent of the population by the end of 2013, and 98 per cent by the end of 2014.
That will require EE to use the 800MHz frequency band, but it has more flexibility to work around Freeview signals than other operators.
Plans are already afoot to boost the EE 4G network’s top speed from 40Mbps to 80Mbps this summer – although in practice users will get from 10-20 per cent in the field.
