Amazon has announced that it’s getting sloppy seconds on Fear the Walking Dead, the zombie-horror drama that’s landing on BT’s new AMC channel at the end of the month.
The show is described as a ‘companion’ to The Walking Dead and takes places before the original series, moving the action to the west coast of the US from the deep south.
Series creator Robert Kirkman said: “Fear the Walking Dead takes us back to the earlier, more dangerous, more terrifying days of The Walking Dead.
“A time when danger was lurking around every corner and the thing most likely to get you killed was your own ignorance of the rapidly changing world around you.”
While BT TV and Sky TV punters will be the first customers to chow down on the LA-based Walking Dead spin-off, Amazon Prime customers will get the second bite at some point next year.
Amazon hasn’t been able to provide a specific date yet, but spokespeople say that the show ‘joins Clarkson, Hammond and May, along with a long list of top talent making their series available on Prime Video in 2015 and early 2016,’ suggesting a January or February release.
A launch date for Clarkson, Hammond and May’s Top Gear spiritual sequel hasn’t been confirmed either; rumours have pointed towards an Autumn 2016 launch date, but this admission suggests that it may arrive sooner than that.
The shopping giant recently announced streaming dates for new shows including The Man In The High Castle and the second series of the award-winning Transparent.
BT TV is available from an extra £0/month alongside a BT Broadband subscription.
Sky TV customers can pick up AMC from BT if they subscribe to the BT Sport pack of channels, which is either £5/month or £19.99/month depending on whether you take BT Broadband or not.
Amazon Prime cost £70/year and comes with access to Prime Instant Video for no extra cost. If you’re not a Prime customer, you can still get Prime Instant Video on its own for £5.99/month.
