BT’s new entertainment channel AMC from BT will claw its way out of the earth on Friday, August 28, with zombie horror drama Fear the Walking Dead in tow.
The long-awaited spin-off of Fox’s popular The Walking Dead, currently airing on Channel 5, will air at 9:00pm the following Monday, August 31 with Southern Gothic drama Rectify getting its UK debut on Tuesday, September 1.
Other programmes have yet to be confirmed, but BT says that more dramas from AMC Networks, home of Mad Men and Breaking Bad, and other leading producers will be announced soon.
Delia Bushell, managing director for BT TV & BT Sport said: “We’re only a few weeks away from one of television’s most compelling new dramas, and we’re looking forward to sharing AMC’s outstanding selection of series and films with our customers.”
The AMC from BT channel will be available to all BT TV customers for no extra cost. It will be automatically added to the channel line up and no action will need to be taken.
Fear the Walking Dead, is described as a ‘companion series’ to The Walking Dead and stars Kim Dickens as Madison Clark, Cliff Curtis as Travis Manawa, heads of a dysfunctional family that attempts to stay alive in post-zombie apocalypse Los Angeles.
The critically acclaimed Rectify, set in smalltown Georgia, follows the life of 37-year old Daniel Holden (Aden Young), who has been released from jail after 19 years, when fresh DNA evidence disputes his previous rape conviction.
The exclusive new channel is the latest feather in the cap from BT, which offers pay TV channels including Comedy Central, SyFy and Universal alongside live Premier League football and UEFA Champions League games, Sky Sports, Sky Movies and Netflix, next to traditional free to air digital terrestrial TV channels. BT TV is also the first British TV broadcaster to launch a 4K Ultra HD service.
The cost of BT TV ranges from free to £15/month on top of a BT Broadband subscription. To get some channels, like Sky Sports and channels in HD, you’ll need to be able to get a BT Infinity FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet)-based service, which is currently available at roughly 80 per cent of UK addresses.
