Sky is launching a new sports channel this summer, Sky Sports Mix, which will bring Premier League, La Liga and World Cup 2018 qualifier coverage to all of its TV customers for no extra cost.
Like BT Sport Showcase, the new channel is something of a tasting board for the full Sky Sports experience. Unlike BT Sport Showcase which sits nicely on Freeview programme guides, Sky Sports Mix will only be available with a Sky TV subscription, which start at either £20/month for Sky+ or £42/month Sky Q.
Related: The cheapest Sky Sports and BT Sport dealsEvents confirmed for the Sky Sports Mix line up include Major League Soccer, ‘international cricket’ which presumably means live English test cricket, and ‘european golf’ which could refer to any of Sky Sports 4’s continental coverage alongside women’s golf, cricket and netball.
Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports, said: “With Sky Sports Mix, we are giving millions more people access to great moments from some of the world’s biggest sporting events at no extra cost. It is a fantastic way for all Sky customers to be able to enjoy some of the great content that has made Sky Sports the first choice for sport.
“Sky Sports Mix will bring sport to more people and provide many different ways of enjoying our coverage, from high profile live events and fascinating documentaries to clips of incredible moments. Our aim is to offer sport in a way that can engage, encourage and excite everyone even further.”
Notably absent from the Sky Sports Mix line up at present is the lure of the occasional Formula 1 race; Sky’s F1 coverage is one of the jewels in the full Sky Sports crown; every race from the 2016 season will be shown live and exclusive on Sky Sports.
Other events coming to Sky Sports this year includes the Ryder Cup plus all four Majors and from August there will be 126 live Premier League games, 127 Football League games and more than 300 live games from Spain’s La Liga.
Sky Sports is available from an extra £13/month on top of your regular Sky TV package. You can also get Sky Sports channels with Virgin TV, BT TV and TalkTalk TV subscriptions as well as live streams with a Now TV Sports pass.
