Freesat Awards open for 2012 nominations

Satellite TV service Freesat is looking for nominations for the best channels, shows and talent on its channels.

The 2012 Freesat Awards will include prizes for Best TV Presenter, Best Live TV Programme and Best New TV Series.

They join ten other awards judged by a panel of TV industry experts, plus the audience vote for the Freesat Entertainment Channel of the Year.

Freesat Managing Director Emma Scott said: “This is a really exciting year for Freesat, as we’re set to launch our next generation of set top boxes, and we’re delighted to be putting on our fourth channel awards.

“As with previous years, our judges will be looking for outstanding examples of original, high quality programming that has particularly entertained and impressed the Freesat audience.”

The other awards are Freesat Channel of the Year, Breakout Channel of the Year, Best TV Presenter, Best Digital Radio Channel, Best News Channel, Best Niche TV Channel, Best Live TV Programme, Best New TV Series, Best Children’s TV Programme, Best Digital Initiative.

The judging panel is chaired by Daily Telegraph media writer Neil Midgley, and includes ITN’s David Mannion, Thinkbox CEO Tess Alps, Aditya Chakrabortty from The Guardian and Wayne Garvie from All3Media.

Winners will be announced at the Freesat Awards ceremony in Central London on Wednesday 23rd May in front of an invited VIP audience.
