Freesat seeks hopefuls for 2013 Awards with three new categories

Gongs for the best sitcom, factual programme and innovation in British free TV will be handed out in the Freesat Awards 2013.

The new awards will be made alongside top accolades Freesat Channel of the Year, and Best of British: TV Programme or Series.

Freesat is seeking entrants and nominations for the awards until April 8, and will announce the winners on July 10, 2013, with public voting in two categories during April.

Read more about FreesatEmma Scott, Freesat’s managing director, said: “The Freesat Awards celebrate the very best of British broadcasting and with so much fantastic TV and radio over the last year, we expect all the categories to be hotly contested.  

“As ever our fantastic judges will be looking for outstanding examples of original, high quality programming that has particularly entertained and impressed the Freesat audience.” 

In a quiet year for new products on the Freesat platform, the innovation award’s shortlist comes down to Freesat’s own Free Time smart TV portal, the Humax Free Time from Freesat box, and the recent arrival of YouTube on Free Time.

There will also be viewers’ votes for Broadcast Personality of the Year and Best British Soap among the 13 titles.

Best Live TV Programme or Series, Niche Channel, Digital Radio Channel, News Channel and Coverage for a Major News Event on Radio or TV make up the rest of the awards.
