TalkTalk TV has announced that it’ll be getting the first four seasons of Game of Thrones this summer.
Individual episodes and entire seasons of from HBO’s hit fantasy show will be available to watch on-demand through TV sets or on phones and tablets via the TV2Go mobile app.
While prices have yet to be announced, it’s possible that they’ll be on par with what you’d pay Blinkbox for the same content – TalkTalk bought the streaming service from Tesco earlier this year.
Right now, you can buy single episodes of Game of Thrones from Blinkbox for £1.89 in SD or £2.49 in 720p HD. Whole seasons can be snapped up in standard definition for £16.99 or high definition for £22.99 a throw.
Blinkbox’s previous relationship with HBO meant that it has been able to offer fans who couldn’t get (or didn’t want) a Sky TV or Now TV subscription the chance to watch Game of Thrones the day after the last episode of the show aired on British TV.
TalkTalk spokespeople have been unable to confirm whether or not this will be the case by the end of the fifth season, which is currently airing on Sky Atlantic – red-eyed fans can stay up ’til 2:00am if they want to watch it at the same time as their American cousins.
The hit show is based on the Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R R Martin and the shows have until the latest season, more or less faithfully followed the plotlines of the books. With Martin’s saga yet to be completed, the show writers have begun to diverge from the source material heavily in the highly-anticipated current season.
TalkTalk TV starts at £10/month plus line rental (£16.70/month) for an entry-level bundle that combines digital terrestrial TV with on-demand and catch-up content, ADSL broadband and home phone calls.
Sky’s cheapest TV service costs £21.50/month and comes with Sky Atlantic included. Now TV entertainment passes, which also come with access to Sky Atlantic, cost £6.99/month. Every episode of Game of Thrones seasons 1-4 are currently available to watch on demand from both Sky and Now TV.
