Harrison Ford ‘breaks a leg’ on Star Wars movie set

Harrison Ford is undergoing treatment after breaking his ankle on the set of the upcoming Star Wars film. 

The 71-year-old star was reportedly injured in an accident involving the door to the set of the Millennium Falcon. 

Ford sustained the injury while on set.

Ford, who starred as Han Solo in the original three Star Wars films was airlifted to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford after sustaining the injury at Pinewood Studios in Berkshire.

According to reports, the accident occurred after the door to the Millennium Falcon became detached and landed on Ford’s ankle. The Health and Safety Executive is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Shooting is set to continue whilst Ford recuperates, according to a statement from production company LucasFilm. 

Star Wars: Episode VII is being filmed in the United Kingdom. It boasts an all-star cast, featuring a significant number of actors from the original films including Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher. 

Other actors joining the cast include Lupita Nyong’o, Adam Driver,  Domhnall Gleeson and Andy Serkis. 

It will also be the first in a new trilogy of films, all of which will be directed by Star Trek director JJ Abrams. It is scheduled to be released in December, 2015.
