Humax unleashes harder, better, faster, slimmer YouView box for £200

Humax has announced a new YouView box – the DTR-T2000 – which promises a faster, slicker experience.

While it might not exactly come with go-faster stripes, Humax says that it’s the fastest most finely-tuned YouVIew box it’s released to date.

As well as promising faster start up times and a smoother performance overall, the set-top box is also smaller and slimmer.

Hey there T2000, you look awfully familiar…

Measuring 360 x 50 x 245 mm (W/H/D) it’s a bit smaller than the Humax DTR-T1000 – the original YouView box – and style-wise, it’s got more in common with the retro-chic DTR-T1010. In fact, the two boxes look virtually identical.

Other than that, the experience is fundamentally the same. You get free digital terrestrial TV – the same channels as Freeview HD – and streamlined access to missed shows, thanks to an EPG that lets you scroll back in time.

Regular channels are delivered through a digital TV aerial, while the catch-up elements require a broadband connection (2Mbps for SD and 5Mbps for HD).

You’ve also got access to a suite of on-demand services. BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD, Demand 5, Dave, Yesterday, Really, S4C, STV (Scotland only), Sky Store and Milkshake! are all available through YouView’s On Demand menu.

The DTR-T2000 comes with a 500GB hard drive, which lets you record up to 300 hours of standard definition TV or 125 hours of high definition (HD) content.

Specs are light at the moment, with not much more than its dimensions and weight (2.5kg) and power consumption available on Humax’s site. There’s no mention if WiFi streaming is included but we’re not optimistic.

Graham North, Commercial Director of Humax, commented: “The Humax DTR-T2000 brings the seamless YouView service to the masses, with its attractive price point enabling even more consumers to benefit from this sophisticated TV service.

“The new box offers the first compact Humax YouView product available at a cost-down price point while still providing the high-quality service and choice of programming that customers expect from Humax.”

The Humax YouView DTR-T2000 / 500GB costs £199.99 and is available to buy from John Lewis, Tesco, Argos, Currys PC World, Humax Direct and other good retailers.
