IKEA TV Uppleva will come with YouTube and Vimeo apps

IKEA TV Uppleva will come with YouTube and Vimeo appsIKEA’s flat pack all-in-one TV set up won’t be unfolding in UK stores until next year. But when it does we can expect the usual Smart TV app-related goodness along with fetching minimalist panels.

The IKEA Uppleva TV will, according to GigaOM, come with apps for YouTube, Vimeo, TuneIn Radio and others.

An IKEA spokesperson said that the Uppleva unit which features an integrated Blu-Ray player will feature 20 apps per country. DailyMotion and QTom, a Vevo-esque provider, will also have apps featured on the Uppleva.

Apps will differ region to region and will encompass a range of on-demand video, music, catch-up and games. BBC iPlayer is a shoe-in for the expected UK launch and we’d hope for ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5 to follow suit. In a gesture of Anglo-Swedish partnership, we’d very much expect to see a Spotify app hitting the IKEA Uppleva in the UK too.

Uppleva will also feature a web browser, mooted to be Opera for TV. If true then we’ve got us an idea of what the menus and app interfaces might look like.

IKEA’s basic Uppleva units – which will range in 24-inch to 46-inch in size – will start at £605. This includes a basic cabinet which can be mixed and matched with a range of additional cupboards and IKEA storage units (naturally).
