BT YouView boxes updated for internet TV recording, TalkTalk users wait

BT YouView subscribers can now record streaming internet TV channels, but TalkTalk’s YouView users are still waiting for their update.

The 15.11.10 software update rolled out to most users overnight, allowing them to pause and record their broadband-delivered TV channels just like over-the-air Freeview channels.

TalkTalk said a similar update, which will also add their TalkTalk TV channels to the YouView guide, is currently in testing, although a launch date has not been confirmed.

Read Recombu Digital’s guide to BT TV on YouViewYouView said: “An exciting new software update is being rolled out to YouView Humax boxes for BT customers.

“Customers with YouView boxes bought from retail or TalkTalk will receive this update in due course.”

Last night’s BT update applies to all the BT Extra channels from channel 400 upwards, which also have three dots under the channel number in the YouView programme guide.

You can still only record two channels at once, whether they’re Freeview or BT Extra, and you must be subscribed to a channel to watch a programme recorded from it.

It’s possible to record a BT Extra streaming channel while you watch On Demand, but only if your broadband has enough bandwidth to support it – at least 5Mbps for two standard-definition streams.
