Lenovo’s Ideacentre Stick 300 is about to hit the UK, bringing full PC functionality to your telly – so other TV sticks could soon become obsolete.
Dongle-style media streamers are useful pieces of kit which turn most standard tellies into a smart entertainment system. Just plug them into your TV’s HDMI port and away you go, streaming content from your own media server or Netflix and the like.
But Lenovo’s Ideacentre Stick 300 aims to raise the bar, in quite spectacular fashion.
The Lenovo Ideacentre Stick 300 is just as diminutive as Google’s Chromecast and Amazon’s Fire TV Stick, but it packs a wallop with some seriously impressive PC-style features.
Packed within the stick’s tiny frame sits a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3735F processor, 2GB RAM and a full version of Microsoft Windows 8.1 (upgradable to Windows 10 come July 29th), as well as 32GB of storage and a Bluetooth 4.0 module, so you can connect a wireless keyboard and mouse.
You can use Lenovo’s Ideacentre Stick 300 to write documents, surf the web or whatever else you might use an actual PC for (save gaming, sadly). The stick will also stream media with the best of the rest, owing to the fully-functional desktop versions of Netflix, Plex and other essential services.
Given its small stature, Lenovo’s device doesn’t have to stay jammed into your monitor at home. It could quite easily go to work or even on holiday with you, so you can stay up-to-date with your favourite shows or even do a cheeky bit of blogging while you’re away.
As you’d expect, all this extra punch comes at a price and the Ideacentre Stick 300 costs more than the other dongle-style devices on the market – quite a bit more in fact, at £129.99. But when you take into account that you’re getting a machine capable of (almost) everything that a bulky desktop or laptop is, that doesn’t seem like such a bad deal.
The Ideacentre Stick 300 will go on sale from Lenovo’s site and other major retailers this July.
