ISP Metronet UK has expanded its fibre and wireless hybrid network to Burnley in Lancashire.
The network is a combination of fibre optics and high capacity carrier-grade wireless networking. Metronet UK said that the market town in the east of Lancashire had struggled in the past with poor connectivity. It said the new rollout meant that Burnley businesses could now take advantage of the “the most competitive and cutting-edge connectivity services available anywhere in the UK. “
The extended network will offer customers speeds of between 1Mbps to 10Gbps. The firm itself offers services ranging from straightforward leased line services to complex multi-site solutions, cloud based hosted services, voice over IP and secure remote worker access.
It said that by using a combination of fibre and high capacity wireless technology, lead times are significantly reduced and businesses that have traditionally struggled with poor copper services such as ADSL, SDSL and EFM or costly leased line installation charged finally have an alternative.

We already have several businesses on the Metronet (UK) network and look forward to connecting the rest of Burnley.”
Metronet has been involved with the Super Connected Cities initiative, connecting a Manchester firm to 30Mbps wireless broadband. The firm has also rolled out a city-wide broadband network in Manchester for businesses in the city.
Last year it teamed up with Siklu to improve broadband for Manchester and Salford businesses who sign up under the Super Connected Cities voucher scheme.
