Mozart in the Jungle gets encore as Amazon scores second series

Amazon has given a thumbs up to a second series of Mozart in the Jungle, a look at the debauched goings on behind the scenes with the New York Symphony orchestra.

The second series, based on Blair Tindall’s memoir Mozart in the Jungle: Sex, Drugs & Classical Music will continue where the first, currently available on Prime Instant Video, left off.

Confirmed to be returning to the stage screen are Gael Garcia Bernal, Saffron Burrows, Lola Kirke, and Malcolm McDowell, while Roman Coppola, Jason Schwartzman and Paul Weitz are returning to executive produce the show.

Roy Price, vice president of Amazon Studios said: “The first season of Mozart in the Jungle was a big hit with our customers and I’m thrilled that we’re able to produce a second season.”
Coppola, who co-wrote and co-directed The Darjeeling Limited with Schwartzman said:  “Jason, Paul and I are delighted to work on a second season of Mozart in the Jungle.

“There are so many interesting stories we want to tell and we’re looking forward to shooting another season with our wonderful cast and team of collaborators. We’re grateful to all the folks at Amazon who believe in this project and supporting us to portray the world of our symphony in what we hope will be an interesting, fun and imaginative season of television. We can’t wait for the curtain to rise on season two.”

Mozart in the Jungle is the latest Amazon Original show to do a reverse Alan Partridge and clinch a second season. The motion was carried to grant political comedy Alpha House a second series last year and a second helping of Transparent has also been confirmed.

It seems like it’s second season season at the moment with Sky’s The Tunnel getting the green light for another season and the latest run of Penny Dreadful hitting UK screens on May 5

Prime Instant Video costs £5.99/month and is also bundled in as a freebie for Amazon Prime customers who can stump up the £79 annual fee.
