Netatmo’s face-recognising Welcome camera on sale in the UK

UK homeowners can now snap up Netatmo’s Welcome camera – a security system that recognises your family’s faces.

We first caught a glimpse of the Welcome unit back at CES 2015. The unassuming pillar, which houses a Full HD camera, is designed to stand sentry near your front door. Welcome will pap everyone as they come home, pinging notifications, pictures and if needed, video streams to your phone or desktop.

As well giving parents peace of mind, the main selling point of Welcome is that it’ll be able to tell you when any strangers or intruders are in your home. This is where the facial recognition tech comes in.

Hands on with Netatmo’s Welcome smart security camera at CES 2015Founder and CEO of Netatmo Fred Potter said: “Since Netatmo launched Welcome at the 2015 CES, the smart home market has been buzzing. We’ve received great feedback on our revolutionary face recognition technology and have been working hard to make today’s smart homes even smarter.

“Now that Welcome is available [in the UK], consumers have the ability to know exactly who enters their home and when. Welcome brings peace of mind to your home.”

As well as recording HD video in the day time, Welcome’s infra-red sensor allows it to capture footage at night.

You can snap the Welcome up right now from John Lewis, Amazon or Netatmo’s own website for £199.
You’ll need an Android or iOS device to get the most out of it. Right now, Windows Phone users aren’t supported natively, but workarounds like this might sort you out

We’ll bring you more information about once we’ve seen a working UK model in th flesh and hopefully get to see that much-talked about night vision mode ourselves.
