Netflix comes to Humax TVs and boxes in time for Narcos and Jessica Jones

Humax has done a deal with Netflix that sees everyone’s favourite subscription streaming service landing on a number of TVs and set-top boxes.

The ink dries as exclusive series Narcos, based on the exploits of infamous Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, starts hoovering up plaudits and a launch date for Marvel’s latest action adventure series Jessica Jones – November 20 – is announced.

A full list of launch devices isn’t available – all Humax is saying at the moment is that Netflix will roll out in ‘the coming months’ to selected devices.

Graham North, commercial director of Humax added: “The Netflix partnership is monumental to Humax, providing our customers with the unique opportunity to enjoy even more quality content, straight from their set-top boxes.

“The partnership also opens up the pay-TV market even further by offering effortless access to a renowned TV service.”

Humax makes hardware for both the YouView and Freetime from Freesat connected TV platforms. These give viewers a blend of subscription-free digital terrestrial or satellite TV with a brace of on-demand and catch-up platforms. The Humax-made BT TV set-top boxes now come with Netflix running under the hood as standard.

Humax has also signed up to make Freeview Play hardware, meaning the very first set-top boxes could also come with Netflix present and correct from day one.

Sadly, sources have been unable to clarify anything so far. A Humax spokesperson said: “Humax and Netflix signed an agreement that will see the Netflix service available on a range of Humax set-top boxes. We will be announcing the exact models in the near future, as the Netflix service becomes available.”

Freeview Play is due to launch in October on Firefox OS-running Panasonic smart TVs, which, as it turns out, also come with Netflix
