Sony’s PlayStation TV is headed to the united states and Europe, following its release in Japan and East Asia last November.
Sony has launched its rebranded PlayStation TV at the E3 conference in Los Angeles, and announced its intent to bring the device to Europe later this year.
The PlayStation TV was first released in Japan and Asia last November under the name PlayStation Vita TV. Since then, it has received a number of software updates and content enhancements from Sony.
It has already experienced strong sales in Japan having moved over 42,000 devices in its debut week of release.
PlayStation TV is designed to act as a companion device for Sony’s recently released PlayStation 4 console, which was released last November to critical acclaim, selling well over 7,000,000 devices.
The diminutive box allows players to stream PS4 games from other TVs in their house, in addition to music and movies from Sony’s own store.
Sony has also stated that the device will also eventually support the streaming of games from its older PS3 devices.
The PlayStation TV will cost €99 in Europe. It is slated for release in Q3 2014 across North America, as well as the PAL region, which covers most of Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania.
It measures 6.5cm by 10.5cm and will support PS4 remote play and Sony’s DualShock 4 controllers, in addition to a significant number of games from the older PS1 and PS Vita consoles.
