Though BT was able to prevent any major broadband outages that might have been caused by St. Jude’s Storm, reports of minor incidents in affected areas have come flooding in.
While Openreach has already announced that engineers are on the case, the network arm of BT has revealed the locations of minor outages across southern England.
Parts of Cambridge, Reading and Southampton have limited access or are currently unable to access broadband and phone services until work has finished.

Openreach has declared ‘MBORC’ (Measures Beyond Our Reasonable Control) status in the following 17 areas:
- Cambridge
- Colchester and Ipswich
- Hemel
- Southend
- Romford
- East Downs
- Central Downs
- West Downs (including the Isle of Wight)
- Esher
- Croydon
- Crayford
- Reading
- Maidenhead
- Southampton
- Bournemouth
- Taunton
- Guildford
An MBORC status is issueed by Openreach whenever an incident beyond BT’s control means that customers can’t get broadband or phone services.
Work to restore services to these areas is already underway. It’s not known exactly how many customers have been affected, but Openreach is considering drafting in engineers occupied with the rollout of superfast broadband to help get people back online.
BT says that it’s monitoring the situation and will remove the MBORC status from these areas as soon as service can be restored to levels they were at before the storm hit.
