Sky’s new basic-tier tariff with 45 high definition channels, Sky 3D and extra on-demand TV has gone live, killing free F1 without Sky Sports for new customers.
Entertainment Extra+, first announced in February, costs £31.50/month and comes with 45 HD channels and an entertainment-only version of the Sky 3D channel.
There are also hundreds of hours of box sets of classic and current Sky and Channel 4 series, such as Game of Thrones, Mad Men, The Inbetweeners and Spaced.
But new customers on the Entertainment and Entertainment Extra packs will no longer be able to upgrade to HD with free Sky Sports F1 for £10.25/month.
Luke Bradley-Jones, Sky’s Director of TV Products, said: “While millions of Sky homes already enjoy the many benefits HD has to offer, we want to encourage even more to experience viewing in HD.
“At the same time, an increasing number of Sky homes have a 3DTV and many more are connecting their Sky+ boxes to the internet.
“Our new Entertainment Extra + subscription pack is designed to make some of our best innovations more accessible and affordable than ever before. It’s all part of our commitment to offer our customers the best TV and the best ways of watching TV.”
Sky 3D entertainment highlights will include Sir David Attenborough’s brand new 3D documentary Micro Monsters, due to air this summer, Inside the Mind of Leonardo, starring Peter Capaldi, and live music from the likes of JLS and Kylie Minogue.
HD channels on Entertainment Extra+ include Sky 1 HD, Sky Atlantic HD, Sky Living HD, Sky Arts HD, Discovery HD, MTV HD, ITV 2 HD, Fox HD, Universal HD, and E4 HD.
Entertainment Extra+: what’s changed
New customers who want must buy Entertainment Extra+ for £31.50/month. Entertainment Extra+ customers who want to watch Sky Sports and/or Sky Movies in HD will have to pay an additional £5.25/month.
The Sky 3D service available with Entertainment Extra+ will not include 3D versions of movies being shown alongside in 2D on Sky Movies, unless you have a Sky Movies subscription and the £5.25/month premium HD subscription.
New customers who want Sky Sports F1 will have to get the complete Sky Sports Pack at £21/month on top of any basic pack.
There’s no change to channels, on-demand selection or prices for customers who already take the HD Pack with any other Sky tariff, and Sky said there are no plans to withdraw Sky Sports F1 HD from these customers.
