Sky has started rolling out an update that makes it easier to delete old shows and decide what to watch on demand.
Freeing up space on your Sky+HD box will soon be even easier; the update lets you zap an entire series in one go with the yellow ‘Delete All’ button. Neatly, you’ll also be able to delete all watched episodes of a show in one fell swoop, leaving the unwatched unscathed.
The most recent recordings will now also be placed at the top of the Planner, making them easier to find.
Sky’s brand director for TV products Luke Bradley-Jones said: “We know the Planner is crucial in helping customers organise their TV viewing so we’ve made some neat changes. Now when you record the latest season of Game of Thrones, you’ll find the most recent episodes right at the top of your Planner.”
As well as making it easier to manage recordings, the update also brings full screen theatrical trailers of Sky Movies and Sky Store titles to the table.
A new ‘Family’ mode will also hide all of the adult channels from the Sky EPG and lock access to all post-watershed and 12+ rated content available from on-demand players. The power-saving Eco Mode will now shut your box off between 2.45-5.45am to save more power.
Sky has also worked with the RNIB to improve the accessibility of the Sky+HD box. Partially sighted viewers will be able to enable a high contrast mode and turn on bold lettering to make navigating the menus easier.
Bradley-Jones also mentioned that Sky is working on bringing a live rewind feature to Sky Movies.
Similar to how Virgin Media TiVo and YouView customers can load catch-up content from the programme guide, Sky’s Restart feature will let you jump back to the start of a film if you’ve missed the first few minutes.
This is already a feature enjoyed by Sky Italia customers and now Sky is looking to bring it to the UK. There’s no launch date for this yet though; Bradley-Jones only said that this alongside more improvements would be “coming later this year.”
Previous updates to the classic Sky+HD experience we’ve come to love include putting on-demand services front and centre on the main page, smart search and Apple TV-style photo sharing.
