A Sky+ update letting box set addicts download whole seasons and instantly start new episodes is rolling out now.
As well as accessing recordings from your Sky Planner as normal, you can now choose to Download All, which will see the first two episodes of a series automatically downloaded to your Sky+HD box, if a full series isn’t yet available on demand.
Provided you’ve downloaded a whole series you’ll be prompted to fire up the next episode during the credits reel; a tap of the green button on your remote will launch the next show without you having to hit stop and find it in the planner.
This Netflix-esque ‘watch next episode’ trigger was announced last month, alongside a new-look Sky Go Android app, and it’s arriving in the wake of Sky Q’s big launch.
Sky Q, Sky’s new connected TV system, offers subscribers access to a huge amount of broadcast and on-demand content from Sky, through a very slick and streamlined interface.
Sky’s determined not to let it’s traditional TV service wither on the vine; the Sky+ update that’s rolling out today is described as the first of many for 2016, with more updates promised for ‘the coming months’.
Michele Swaine, Sky’s director of product development remained quiet on the details, but said that there’s some ‘really exciting updates’ in the pipeline.
Related: How can I stream or watch The Walking Dead?Swaine added: “Up to 95 per cent of viewing of dramas, for example, can take place after the episode is shown live as people increasingly choose to enjoy shows on demand.
“We’re committed to giving customers the choice of how they enjoy the shows they love whether that’s live TV or moving from episode to episode of your favourite box set.”
Shows that are available to binge through right now include series 1 and 2 of Twin Peaks, a long-awaited third series of which is due out next year, The Walking Dead and The Blacklist.
The update comes ahead of the second season of The Tunnel, an Anglo-French reworking of the hugely popular Danish-Swedish crime noir The Bridge, not to mention the sixth series of Game of Thrones, which is coming to Sky on April 25.
