TalkTalk is the latest broadband provider to join the 80Mbps party, with a fibre-to-the-cabinet service launching in April from £45.58/month.
The service adds a £15 monthly premium to TalkTalk’s existing Fibre Optic Broadband tariffs, delivering up 80Mbps down and up to 20Mbps up.
BT, Plusnet and other broadband providers are all running 80Mbps fibre broadband trials, but TalkTalk will be the first non-cable broadband provider to launch a full commercial service.
Customers can check availability in their area and register for the earliest possible installation at TalkTalk’s fibre-optic broadband site.

Upgrading to 80Mbps broadband will require an engineer to visit, costing £55, to upgrade your router and configure the local street cabinet, where the fibre-optic connection joins to your ADSL copper connection.
Based on TalkTalk’s existing Fibre Optic Broadband tariffs, 80Mbps will cost £45.58/month on the Essentials package with a 40GB monthly download limit, including weekend and evening UK landline calls and line rental for the year paid in advance, working out at £9.50/month, on an 18-month contract.
For unlimited monthly downloads, you’ll need the Plus package, which also includes unlimited anytime UK landline calls and is £53.58/month with advance line rental, or £57.88/month with standard line rental.
Fibre to the cabinet, or hybrid broadband, usually delivers 95 per cent or better of the advertised headline speeds.
