TalkTalk is retiring a string of channels from its pay TV line up at the end of the month as it prepares to launch its new on-demand Film Club.
TalkTalk Film Club will give customers access to a rotating library of 20 films; five movies will join the service every week as another five leave.
Launch titles have yet to be confirmed, but Recombu understands that the content partnerships TalkTalk inherited from the Blinkbox buy will be put to good use; this means we can expect at least a handful of recent blockbuster hits every month. It’s unlikely that the Film Club will be totally stocked with the latest and greatest hits as that’d undermine the value of TalkTalk TV Store – the new name for Blinkbox.
TalkTalk spokespeople have not been able to give us any more details about the new service just yet.
It’s not all good news; when TalkTalk Film Club lands on June 30, TV customers with the Entertainment and Entertainment Extra Boosts will be waving goodbye to six pay TV channels.
Discovery Channel, Discovery Home & Health, Animal Planet, TLC, Sony TV Asia and Star Plus are being given the chop.
Chief operating officer of TalkTalk TV Aleks Habdank explained that this is being done to keep things fresh on the platform. Habdank said: “To ensure we provide the best entertainment we regularly review all our channels, and sometimes need to remove some as well as add new ones.”
Habdank reiterated that the likes of Fox, Gold, Comedy Central, National Geographic and History will ‘still be there with their world class-programmes’, so that means new Family Guy, season 20 of South Park in September and more repeats of Storage Wars.
Recently Sky ruffled some feathers when it emerged that the forthcoming Now TV Kids service would be launched at the expense of Entertainment Pass customers, who would lose access to a string of cartoons. Sky responded by saying that more box sets and new channels including Viceland would be headed to the service later in the year.
TalkTalk TV customers can now also sign up for BT Sport channels, marking the first time TalkTalk customers will be able to watch every Premier League game, along with the Sky Sports channels.
