TalkTalk’s WiFi calling mobile app saves chatters 3 million minutes

TalkTalk punters prattling via the Talk2Go WiFi calling app have made over half a million calls since launch last November

Customers have been notching up more than 4,000 calls a day to friends and family around the world since launch, which TalkTalk says equates to over 3 million minutes in total.

Talk2Go’s party trick is that is lets you tap into unused landline minutes when you’re connected to WiFi, 3G or 4G.

Instead of the minutes coming out of your TalkTalk allowance, they’ll be subtracted from your home phone plan instead. Talk2Go is available for both iOS and Android devices and lets you essentially leverage all the benefits of your home phone plan.

If you’ve got international calls bolted on to your phone plan, you can make these on your phone. Likewise, if you’ve only got free evening and weekend calls, you only get free calls via Talk2Go at these times too.

TalkTalk’s app isn’t the only WiFi calling app out there. Virgin Media, O2, Three and BT all offer similar services and EE is planning on baking a similar service right into phones like the Samsung Galaxy S6. However, TalkTalk says that Talk2Go is the first WiFi calling app of its kind that lets you receive calls as well as make them.

You can download Talk2Go from the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store now, and it’s free for TalkTalk customers.
