TalkTalk has unveiled an update to its TV player to put more emphasis on on-demand content.
The TalkTalk Player offers an improved version of the company’s movie rental service, TalkTalk Box Office. TalkTalk said this would include more of the latest blockbuster movies which can be rented from £4.00 for 48hrs, with many available on the same day as their DVD release.
Latest hits currently available include Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle and 12 Years A Slave.
Tristia Harrison, Managing Director for Consumer at TalkTalk said: “YouView from TalkTalk is fast becoming a destination for family entertainment and our all-new TalkTalk Player offers more of the best TV and movies at a cost viewers can control.”
“We’ve made our on-demand movies, kids and Sky entertainment library bigger than ever and the TalkTalk Player is faster, and smarter, making it easier to find shows and films you want to watch.”
There is also a new feature to aid customers in discovering all the channels and movies included in their package. The “Included Channels” feature allows viewers to browse the entire library of over 500 movies and hundreds of hours of on demand programmes.
All live channels included within the additional monthly Boosts, plus seven additional Sky channels recently bundled into TalkTalk’s Plus TV package, can now be found in the YouView guide from channel 401 onwards.
Other features of the revamped TalkTalk Player include a search function to find a movie by searching by title, actor, director or keyword. There’s even a Watchlist to save movies and shows to watch at another time and a Play All feature that lets viewers plays every episode in a series back to back.
The Most Popular feature stores a viewer’s favourite shows and movies in one place, while Currently Watching allows viewers to leave a programme half way through, and then return to the exact point where they left off.
The roll out of features began on June 11, with the service available to all one million plus TalkTalk TV homes by 17 June.
To access the new TalkTalk Player, customers have to connect their YouView box to their router and ensure it is either ‘on’ or on ‘standby’. Once connected, customers can press the TalkTalk button on the remote control to start enjoying the service.
Just recently, Sky updated its EPG to help customers find new shows and on-demand content more easily. The BBC has also updated its iPlayer app on a number of platforms.
