TalkTalk’s WiFi AC Super Router now offered as standard

Budget ISP TalkTalk is now bunging its wireless Super Router for free with all of its broadband packages.

The dual-band WiFi AC wireless Super Router was previously included with the more expensive Fibre Broadband FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) bundles; now it’s being offered to folks who want the cheaper Essentials and SimplyBroadband deals too.

TalkTalk Super Router promises WiFi AC boost and plug’n’play superfast fibreIntroduced back in 2014, the TalkTalk Super Router HG633, to give it its full name, compared well in tests against the then-current freebie routers offered by BT, Virgin Media, EE and Sky.

This Testronic report from last June gives you an idea of its performance in a variety of domestic locations in terms of actual throughput speeds – put simply, how fast WiFi around your home will be.

The main advantage of so-called dual-band WiFi products is that they use two radio frequency bands, 2.4GHz and 5GHz. As older single-band WiFi devices and common household items like baby monitors use the 2.4GHz band, devices using the 5GHz band will be able to alleviate some of this congestion. The top speeds possible on the 5GHz are also faster although on the downside, it’s not as good as penetrating walls, floors and ceilings as signals on the 2.4GHz band are.

New customers signing up for any of TalkTalk’s broadband services will get the Super Router included free of charge. Existing customers with older hardware won’t be eligible for a free upgrade, but they’ll be able to buy a Super Router directly from the TalkTalk shop for £80.
