TP-LINK TL-MR3040 turns your USB 3G dongle into a 150Mbps network

The TP-LINK TL-MR3040 has found a use for that old USB mobile broadband dongle you’ve got floating about. Yeah we know it doesn’t roll off the tongue quickly.

The TL-MR3040, billed as a ‘Rechargeable 3G Wireless Router,’ lets you plug in a USB modem, turning it into a high-speed 150Mbps wireless network. The battery kicks out 4.5 hours of juice so it’s perhaps best used in emergency back-up situations. The TL-MR3040 charges via a separate micro USB port on the side and can charge via a laptop connection

There’s also a WAN port next to the USB slot, so if you’re back in the office and there’s a spare cable going, you can fall back on a wired option to create your hostpot too.

We like the simple functionality offered by the TP-LINK TL-MR3040 and the smooth ‘glossy piano white’ coating looks pretty nice too. We don’t think that this is a device that you’d use all the time but can see it coming in handy in emergency situations.

Weighing just 94 grams and measuring 100 x 62 x 16 mm you could easily slip this into a jacket pocket or a section of your laptop carry case.
