The second season of True Detective will kick off on Sky Atlantic on Monday, June 22.
The new eight-episode series moves the action from Louisiana to California and will star Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Kelly Reilly, and will follow three police officers and lifelong criminals who find themselves caught in a morass of intrigue and villainy following a murder.
The new series will be written by the show’s creator Nic Pizzolatto, who previously worked on the US version of Nordic noir thriller The Killing, before leaving to pursue his own creation.
The first two episodes of the new run will be directed by Justin Lin, who was recently named as the director of the upcoming third Star Trek movie, following JJ Abrams departure to film the new Star Wars movies.
Series one of True Detective, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, was well received by the public and won numerous honours for its writing, direction and acting.
McConaughey and Harrelson in particular were praised for their performances, arguably be the best of their careers.
As with season five of Game of Thrones, true True Detective fans will be able to stay up late and watch the season premiere at the same time as it’s being broadcast in the US – which works out at 2:00am UK time. Perhaps a tall order for a school-night.
Sky TV customers will be able to set recordings to catch up on missed episodes via Sky On Demand. Similarly, Now TV subscribers who miss the live stream will be able to watch at their convenience later.
Sky’s most basic TV bundle costs £21.50/month and includes Sky Atlantic. Now TV’s entertainment passes, which give customers access to a selection of Sky content, costs £6.99/month.
