The first episode of Amazon’s latest season of historical hack-and-slashery Vikings is now available on Prime Instant Video.
Every Friday, a new episode of the ten-episode series will be available to stream, with Travis Fimmel returning as the legendary warrior and ruler Ragnar Lodbrok.
The series sees newly crowned King of Denmark, Ragnar and his inexplicably well-groomed Viking pals contemplating plans to sack Paris, a city rumoured to be impenetrable to outside forces. If only they’d heard of France’s penchant for surrender.
He is joined this season by Ben Robson (Dracula: The Dark Prince), playing second in command to love interest Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) as well as Kevin Durand, Lothaire Bluteau and Morgane Polanski, adding to the line-up.
The drama, filmed in County Wicklow in Ireland, launched in 2013, and with the help of solid writing, courtesy of The Tudors’ Michael Hirst. The series was the first US show to be broadcast exclusively in the UK by Amazon Prime and paved the way for other Prime-only content, such as the Golden Globe-winning series Transparent.
The third Viking invasion arrives ahead of Mozart in the Jungle getting the thumbs up for a second series and alternative history drama The Man in the High Castle. Amazon’s grand campaign to win the Original Content War with Netflix will also eventually feature an as-of-yet-untitled Woody Allen vehicle at its centre.
