Virgin Media to launch YouTube channel aimed at kids

Virgin Media is reportedly planning to launch a YouTube channel featuring game reviews that’s aimed at younger audiences.

The currently-unnamed channel will feature a number of shows, including the aforementioned gaming show Pixel Life and a reviews show called Jacked In. As well as this, there will be mash-ups of content from Virgin Media’s pay channels, presented by well-known ‘YouTube stars’.

Virgin Media has partnered with production company BigBalls Films which produced the Somebody Else’s Phone YouTube videos for Nokia.

Read Recombu Digital’s guide to YouTube ChannelsRichard Larcombe, director of advertising and sponsorship for Virgin Media spoke to Broadcast [paywall] saying:

“You can’t ignore what’s happening on YouTube There is a massive connected audience that we need to be talking to about entertainment and YouTube offers a fantastic opportunity to do that in a connected space. We are an entertainment brand so we need to entertain across multiplatforms.”

Unlike the YouTube ‘channel’ that has launched on Virgin Media TiVo recently, this will be a channel in the sense that it’s a channel on YouTube. It will be available to everyone to watch online.

The plan is to not make the channel a hard sell. “This is a group of people that are going to be the lifeblood of our brand in the next 10 to 15 years and YouTube allows a fantastic opportunity to have a conversation with them,” says Larcombe.
There’s no launch date in sight for the YouTube channel just yet but we’re expecting to hear more on this soon.
