Vodafone 4G Mobile Broadband: September ETA

Vodafone has announced that it expects its 4G mobile broadband services to be live by ‘late summer’ this year.

Guy Laurence Vodafone UK chief executive said: “For consumers, it’s another important step towards the arrival of our ultra-fast 4G service later this year. It is also great news for the country. We’re investing in vital national infrastructure that can help play an important role in supporting growth in the wider economy.”

End of August or start of September? Vodafone aims for 4G by the end of the summer

Read Recombu Digital’s guide to 4G In the UKAt the moment EE has a monopoly on 4G in the UK. As such, prices for the next-gen superfast service aren’t cheap. It’s hoped that the entry of Vodafone, O2 and Three into the 4G network will trigger a price war and help keep costs down.

EE’s 4G network currently covers most of the major cities in the UK. Vodafone hasn’t revealed where it’s going to set up 4G first of all but presumably it’ll take a leaf out of EE’s book and deliver 4G where there’s big concentrations of potential customers.

While Vodafone hasn’t announced a fixed date, we can assume that ‘end of late summer’ means end of August, start of September.  Vodafone hopes to have achieved 98 per cent indoor coverage by 2015.
