Watch Family Guy and American Dad! online with ITV Hub: ITV’s new-look Player

Family Guy and American Dad! are due to get their official on-demand debuts in the UK on ITV Hub, the new name for the new-look ITV Player. 

The move marks the first time Seth McFarlane’s animated comedies will be available to stream free (legally) in the UK from a non-pay TV provider and follows the Griffin family’s much-publicised exodus from the ill-fated BBC Three.  

ITV Hub will launch online later this year, replacing both the ITV Player website as well as itv.com. The new-look website promises to merge existing programme pages with on-demand content, making it easier to discover and access missed shows. It’s not yet been revealed if you’ll need Flash or Silverlight installed to access ITV Hub or which browsers it’ll play nicely with. 

As well as being able to stream content on your desktop, you’ll also be able to access the ITV Hub from connected services including Freeview Play and Amazon’s Fire TV boxes and sticks. It’s not yet been revealed when existing ITV Player apps on other platforms like iOS, Android, YouView and Virgin Media TiVo might be updated. 

The jury’s also out on whether or not it’ll work with Chromecast – ITV Player for Android does, but only sort of. 

A launch date for the new service has not been revealed, but Rufus Radcliffe, ITV’s Group Marketing Director, tells us that it’s coming ‘later this autumn. 

Radcliffe added: “We have created an exciting new brand identity for The ITV Hub which will present all of ITV’s family of channels and services front and centre with a distinct, digital look and feel building off the success of ITV’s rebrand.”

Apparently the dots of the new logo represent the six ITV channels – ITV, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, CITV and ITVBe – and the fact that they revolve around one service. This could be awkward if ITV decides to launch a new channel in the future. 

ITV Player is currently available on a number of services including Sky On Demand, YouView (and therefore BT TV and TalkTalk TV), Virgin Media TiVo, Freesat, Roku, Now TV, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, PlayStation 3 and 4 (via the browser) and Xbox 360 and One.
