What is Broadband From EE?

Latest news for Broadband from EEBroadband from EE replaced Orange broadband when EE launched in October 2012, with discounted rates for EE, Orange and T-Mobile pay-monthly customers.

It’s a typical unbundled broadband operation, using the BT Openreach copper and fibre networks from the susbcriber’s house to the local telephone exchange, where it connects to EE’s national fibre broadband backbone.

EE has placed its equipment in BT exchanges reaching about 50 per cent of the UK households, with speeds of up-to-14Mbps for copper ADSL connections and FTTC (fibre-to-the-cabinet) connections at both up-to-38Mbps and up-to-76Mbps.

Broadband from EE initially launched with a Fibre ‘lite’ option capped at 40GB usage per month, but this has now been replaced by a simplified two-tier unlimited fibre broadband range.

EE Fibre Broadband: How much does it cost?

There are two fibre Broadband From EE packages.

EE line rental includes unlimited weekend calls to UK landlines (including 0845 and 0870). An optional ‘anytime and mobile’ package provides unlimited anytime calls to UK landlines and 30 international destinations, plus 1,000 monthly anytime minutes to UK mobile numbers.

All plans come with a year of McAfee Family Protection, EE’s award-winning Bright Box wireless router, and access to a great range of EE benefits, including 2-4-1 cinema tickets as part of EE Film.

Orange and T-Mobile customers Combine And Save: You can haz discount

As well as getting a discount on the Broadband From EE fibre services, Orange and T-Mobile customers can also get a discount on the connection fee for the new BrightBox router.

In order for the BrightBox router to be connected to the Openreach modem, an engineer will need to visit to connect the EE router. Normally this costs £50, but Orange and T-Mobile customers can get it for £25.

Orange and T-Mobile customers taking a 4GEE mobile contract and fibre broadband from EE avoid paying this connection fee altogether.

EE Fibre Broadband: What’s happening with Orange Home Broadband?

Orange Home Broadband has been rebranded under the Broadband From EE banner. Aside from this, there will be no changes to the prices of the current Orange Home Broadband packages which you can review here.

EE Fibre Broadband: What else is new?

As well as announcing new fibre broadband packages, EE is also launching EE Film. Effectively replacing good old Orange Wednesdays, EE Film offers a ‘one-stop shop for film’. As well as 2 for 1 cinema voucher codes, EE Film will also give you access to a free film every month, as well as the option to stream other movies on-demand for as little as 79p.

The on-demand platform is powered by FilmFlex, which includes Virgin Media Online Movies and Film4oD as partners and boasts ‘significantly more new releases than iTunes, LoveFilm Blinkbox and Netflix.’

EE Film is more than just a rebrand of Orange Wednesdays, it’s also a new venture for EE that sees it setting up shop against the likes of TalkTalk, which is bundling free LoveFilm with TalkTalk Plus and Sky, which offers movies on demand via Sky Go and Now TV.

EE Fibre Broadband: Where can I get it?

Broadband From EE uses the Openreach fibre network and so will be available to the same 11 million homes and businesses where you can get BT Infinity.

Fibre broadband from EE uses BT’s FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) network which means the available download speed will ultimately depend on how far away your house is from the street cabinet you’re connected to.

As the Openreach network increases, so will availability of fibre Broadband From EE. BT expects to have rolled out fibre to two-thirds of the UK by 2014.

EE Fibre Broadband: In a nutshell…

Broadband From EE in a nutshell is three new fibre broadband packages, a new wireless router, a revamped Orange Wednesdays 2 for 1 with added on demand films and plenty of discounts for those early adopters who want some 4GEE with their FTTC.
