The new series of Top Gear kicks off later this month and spin-off show Extra Gear will be literally following in its wake. Here’s everything you need to know about the new show and how to watch it.
Extra Gear will be available to stream live immediately after new episodes of Top Gear finish being broadcast on BBC Two and BBC Two HD on Sunday nights.
Extra Gear is being shot as live in the same studio as Top Gear and filming will commence immediately after each main show has wrapped.
In case you didn’t get the memo, it’s starring our very own Rory Reid, Recombu’s editor-in-chief and upcoming Top Gear co-host. While Rory will be tearing up the tarmac on Top Gear, Extra Gear will offer a Big Brother’s Little Brother-style behind the scenes look at the show, how it’s made and in Rory’s own words, give fans ‘a chance to really get a peek behind the curtain’.

How can I watch Extra Gear?

BBC iPlayer is available on a huge number of platforms; you can stream online through your desktop, on your iOS, Android device or through your connected Freeview Play, Freesat, YouView, Sky, Virgin or EE TV set-top box.
You can also watch programmes streamed from the BBC Three’s live page, which is currently only available in browser form.
Once episodes have finished being broadcast, they’ll be available to watch on a catch-up basis on iPlayer for up to 30 days.
How long are episodes of Extra Gear?
Extra Gear episodes will be 30 minutes long.
What can I expect from Extra Gear?
The BBC’s press blurb promises ‘interviews, specially recorded films and behind the scenes access to Top Gear.’
Sources tell us that interviewees will include guest and hosts from the main Top Gear show as well as original guests invited on specifically for Extra Gear.
As well as offering a behind the scenes look at Top Gear and how it’s made, Extra Gear will serve up exclusive unseen videos created specifically for the show.
The first episodes of Top Gear and Extra Gear are due to be broadcast ‘this month’. There’s no official announcement yet from the BBC, but it’s rumoured to be Sunday, May 29.
