Acer CloudMobile confirmed

We’ve not heard a huge amount from Acer on the phone front of late, but we’re pretty excited about the CloudMobile that’s been just announced.

This sleek-looking phone has just been awarded the iF Design Award for 2012 and glancing at the press render we’ve got an idea why.

With a depth of less than a centimetre (9.9mm or less, in other words) the Acer CloudMobile is pretty slim. The back of the phone features a textured, rippled cover which Acer is calling a ‘Sleeve DNA design’ and the sides and speaker are accentuated  with stainless steel.

The front of the Acer CloudMobile is dominated by a big 4.3-inch screen. No word on resolution yet, but we’d expect at least 800×480 (WVGA) on there.

There’s no indication in the press materials we’ve seen that the Acer CloudMobile will run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. But given that Acer’s previous smartphone efforts have done so we wouldn’t be surprised; our source couldn’t tell us what software was running on the Acer CloudMobile, but we were told that a ‘July-August’ release date was likely.

Whether or not it runs Android 4.0 or Windows Phone 7.5 (a la the Acer Allegro) we should know for sure at Mobile World Congress where Acer will be showing the CloudMobile off at its stand.

We’re hearing that Acer’s AcerCloud software will be present, which allows for remote access to content on your desktop PC including pictures and audio content a la Motorola’s MOTOCAST, seen on the XOOM 2 and Motorola XOOM 2 Media Edition tablets. You’ll also be able to sent files to print wirelessly with the AcerPrint service too.

More info on this as and when we hear it, failing that expect hands-on pictures and a write up from Mobile World Congress and it will be available in Q3.
